Tunisian Ons Jabeur climbed into the top 50 of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings following her historic run at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Jabeur, 25, rose 33 spots from 78th to 45th with 1190 points in the latest rankings released on Monday.

Jabeur recorded her best ever performance at any Grand Slam so far when she reached the quarterfinals where she lost in straight sets to eventual champion Sofia Kenin of the United States.

Her best showings were reaching the 3rd round at both the 2017 French Open and 2019 US Open.

In her run at Melbourne, she defeated two top 30 seeds, Johanna Konta (12) and Wang Qiang (27) and also took out former world number one and 2018 Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki.

The Tunisian also made history by becoming the first Arab woman to make an appearance at a Grand Slam quarterfinal.

Jabeur said before her quarterfinal match that she hoped that her exploits at the tournament will inspire many young generations either in Tunisia or the Arabic world, especially in Africa.

Australian Open finalist Ashleigh Barty of Australia remains at the top followed by Simona Halep of Romania who jumped a spot above Czech Karolina Pliskova. Elina Svitolina of Ukraine) and Belinda Bencic of Switzerland round off the top five respectively.
