Motorists spend night in the cold on Nairobi-Nakuru Highway after lane closure
Travellers in Kenya were forced to spend a night on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway because of a traffic snarl-up at Gilgil in Nakuru County.
The snarl-up is said to have been caused by the closure of a truck lane near the Gilgil weighbridge that caused motorists to be stuck on the busy high way for over 10 hours.
The traffic jam started Friday evening and by Saturday 7am there were no signs of relief.
Some travellers blamed the police for not taking action in a timely manner.
Kenyans went onto social media frustrated with the situation, some expressing how long they had stayed in the traffic jam.
I have spent 15 hours from Nakuru to Nairobi

A few blamed other motorists for overlapping which made the situation worse.

David expressed on twitter that overlapping is breaking traffic laws and those who were overlapping needed to be disciplined.

Some are calling on Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, James Macharia to improve the transport infrastructure as to ease traffic in the area.
I have been in many traffic jams but this one is madness!! @JamesMacharia_ we do not need an expressway in Nairobi you need to dual NRB/NAKURU highway and add commuter train. This is madness via @KuisanMacharia #KenyanTraffic https://t.co/DxQDaKFtR2
