Air Canada to begin using gender-neutral terms in on-board announcements
Passengers on board Air Canada will soon hear changes in the flights as the airline is set to take up gender-neutral terms.
Flight attendants will use the term “everybody” to replace the conventional “ladies and gentlemen”, according to CTV news.
“We will be amending our on-board announcements to modernize them and remove specific references to gender,” CTV quotes a media spokesperson for the company.
“We work hard to make sure all employees feel like valued members of the Air Canada family, while ensuring our customers are comfortable and respected when they choose to travel with us.”
The decision comes as many companies and organisations around the world are resorting to more gender-neutral terminology.
Earlier this year, Airlines for America (A4A) announced that it would expand gender options for U.S. passengers booking flights. The new options will include “unspecified” and “undisclosed.”
Air Canada did not say when the changes will go into effect.
