Morocco’s Soufiane El Bakkali defended his men’s Olympic 3000m steeplechase title in 8:06.05 after an impressive final lap at the 2024 Paris Games.

American Kenneth Rooks won silver in a new personal record of 8:06.41 with Kenya’s Abraham Kibiwot completing the podium places in 8:06.47.

Tunisian duo Mohamed Amin Jhinaoui and Ahmed Jaziri finished fourth and fifth.

World record-holder Lamecha Girma did not finish (DNF) after suffering a dramatic fall with just 200 meters to go and had to be stretchered off the tracks.

Victory for El Bakkali marked his fourth straight global championship with the Moroccan having triumphed at the previous Olympic Games in Tokyo as well as winning the last two World Championships.
