We will abide by the courts decision on Maritime dispute with Kenya: Somalia
Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo in a speech at the UN General Assembly in New York,US said that his country will comply with the United Nations International Court of Justice ruling on its maritime border dispute with Kenya.
He added that they will accept the boundary that is delimited by the tribunal.
This coming even as the International Court announced that the closure date for the public hearings of the dispute would be November 8.
“As a matter of international law, the court’s judgment will be binding on Kenya,” Somalian President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo said in a speech to the UN General Assembly. “We trust that, when that judgment is issued and the boundary is established, a lasting settlement of this longstanding dispute will finally be achieved.”
Kenya says the boundary should lie parallel to the line of latitude thus marking the land Kenyan territory. Somalia disagrees saying their border extends diagonally to the southeast.
Kenya has warned that the decision of ICJ, which is binding on both sides, could offer little room for a win-win solution and hence may sow further political differences.
In their Tuesday meeting, Somalia reportedly said no discussion should be held on the dispute until the case is done.
