Guinean midfielder Naby Keita could play for Premier League leaders Liverpool on Wednesday night when they face League One club MK Dons in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

“I will not give the team but he is in a really good way… he is an important player, so hopefully we can use him in the next weeks and hopefully tomorrow will be a day where he can shine,” Liverpool’s assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders said on Wednesday.

Keita has been out of action since he suffered a hip strain in the build-up to the UEFA Super Cup match against Chelsea last month in Istanbul, Turkey. He also missed five Premier League matches, all of which Liverpool won, and one Champions League game.

Manager Jürgen Klopp, nearly two weeks ago, said he expected Keita to be available for training following Liverpool’s Champions League game away to Italian side Napoli last Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Liverpool confirmed that Senegalese forward Sadio Mane will not travel for the Carabao Cup game.

Mane will miss the tie due to the knock and dead leg he suffered during the win against Chelsea on Sunday.
