Egypt has sent a second batch of humanitarian aid to neighboring Sudan in support of the country’s stability, Egyptian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

The aid is part of Egypt’s continuous support for the steps taken by Sudan to implement the process of building the institutions at the transitional stage, the ministry said in a statement.

It reiterated “Egypt’s keenness to achieve stability in Sudan,” adding that the aid was handed to the Freedom Yard in Sudan’s capital Khartoum.

The yard was one of the main places in Khartoum that witnessed the four-month mass protests which led to the ouster of former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in April.

Last week, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi met with Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok in Cairo, underscoring Egypt’s full support for Sudan’s security and stability.

Sudan is currently co-ruled by an 11-member sovereign military-civilian council for a 39-month transitional period.

The sovereign body will be chaired in the first 21 months by Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan, head of the Transitional Military Council that temporarily ruled Sudan following al-Bashir’s ouster. A civilian member will take over in the remaining 18 months.
