Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham has not ruled out playing for Nigeria despite the fact that he has previously played for England.
Abraham has represented England at Under-18 ad Under-19 levels, participated in two Under-21 European Championships (in 2017 and 2019). He has also played twice for the senior team against Brazil and Germany.
Abraham, who was born in central London, is eligible to play for Nigeria through his paternal lineage.
“I have not really been focused on that yet. I think when the time comes, the times comes. We never know,” Abraham said.
“You can never say never, whatever comes first really. I just have to keep my full focus on Chelsea,” Abraham added.
Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick said he had previously told Abraham that he stood a better chance of playing regular international football with the Super Eagles.
Abraham’s form in the current Premier League season has seen speculation of a potential call up to the England squad increase.
His manager at club level, Frank Lampard, believes the striker’s exploits could earn him a call during the next international break.
“The only challenge for Tammy now is can he keep doing it? Can he get better and better because the way he’s playing, he’s a huge threat for us up front and there is competition within from Giroud and Batshuayi so he needs to keep it at that level and get even better,” Lampard said.
