Liverpool’s Naby Keita close to a return to full training
Guinea midfielder Naby Keita is close to a return to full training, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp confirmed on Friday.
Keita has been out of action with a hip injury since August causing him to miss Liverpool’s UEFA Super Cup win against Chelsea and three subsequent Premier League matches.
Keita will miss Liverpool’s game against Newcastle United at Anfield on Saturday and the away trip to Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday.
However, Klopp expects Keita to be available for training following the trip to Italy.
“Naby is close, much closer than Ali. I think he could be in training when we come back from Napoli next week,” Klopp said.
Klopp also added during the pre-match press conference that goalkeeper Alisson Becker’s recovery from a calf injury will be assessed on a daily basis with no return date set.
“The target was always after the next international break [that] he could be ready, but we don’t know. So, as I said, there is no pressure and hopefully everything will be fine for the rest of the season, that’s the plan,” Klopp said.
Liverpool is currently top of the Premier League with four wins out of four games, two points ahead of defending champions Manchester City.
