Morocco will host the 24th edition of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) General Assembly in 2021, official news agency MAP said.

Morocco was selected after a vote Thursday in St Petersburg, Russia, of tourism ministers from UNWTO member states during their meeting that runs from September 9 to 13.

Of the 107 delegations participating in the 23rd UNWTO General Assembly, Moroccan city Marrakesh was chosen with 76 votes.

The agency quoted Moroccan Tourism Minister Mohamed Sajid as saying “this demonstrates the Kingdom’s privileged position in the field of tourism, thanks in particular to its development and stability.”

It is also a victory for the African continent, he added.
