Former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe reportedly does not wish to be buried at the National Heroes’ Acre Monument. He instead wants to be buried next to his mother, Bona, at his rural home in Zvimba, Mashonaland West province, sources say.
While Mugabe seemed to make peace with President Mnangagwa following last year’s general elections, Mugabe is said to be still acrimonious and hostile towards his successor.
Mnangagwa assumed power following Mugabe’s removal from office in November and Mugabe has often referred to Mnangagwa as his “tormentor” ever since.
The government is helping Mugabe with payment of medical bills despite the sour relations between him and President Mnangagwa.
Mnangagwa said in a statement this week “Mugabe had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment for months but was responding well to medication.”
Mugabe has been hospitalized in Singapore since April.
