
Sadio Mané nominated for UCL forward of the year

Liverpool & Senegal forward Sadio Mané was on Thursday nominated alongside Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo for the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League forward of the year award.
Mané played 13 times for Liverpool in their 2018/19 campaign, scored four goals and provided three assists as the Reds lifted the title with a 2-0 win against Tottenham in the final at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid, Spain.
Some of Mané’s goals were crucial to Liverpool’s progression in the tournament. In the Round of 16, he scored twice in the second leg away to five-time European champions Bayern Munich to secure a 3-1 aggregate win.
Argentina’s Lionel Messi made 10 appearances for La Liga winners Barcelona, scoring 10 goals and notching three assists. Barcelona was eliminated by Liverpool in the semifinal following a 4-0 defeat away despite having a 3-goal advantage from the first leg.
Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile played 9 times for Italian champions Juventus and contributed 9 goals and two assists in a campaign that ended at the quarterfinal stage to Ajax Amsterdam.
The winners of the positional awards for the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League season will be announced at a ceremony in Monaco on August 29, when the draw for the 2019/20 group stage will be held.
