Zambian delegation arrives in Davos for WEF 2024, targets foreign investment
A high-level delegation from Zambia arrived in Davos, Switzerland on Sunday ahead of the World Economic Forum 2024 which is scheduled to be held between January 15 and January 19.
The Zambian team is being led by Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane. Others members that travelled alongside Musokotwane include Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Chipoka Mulenga, State House Principal Private Secretary Bradford Machila, Special Assistant to the President for Economic Affairs Pamela Nakamba and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and National Planning Danies Chisenda.
The delegation also comprises representatives from the private sector and the Zambia Development Agency.
A statement by the Finance Ministry said the team will be focused on attracting foreign investment for the southern African country.
“We are here to make diligent efforts to attract the best available global investment prospects in the green economy, mining, agriculture, tourism, value addition, human development, and other growth boosting ventures,” the statement reads in part.
On his part, Musokotwane said his team will use the Davos platform to showcase Zambia as a nation ready for investment.
“Our government’s mission to ensure debt sustainability and set a smooth platform for economic transformation through multi-dimensional support for businesses, is very clear about the role of both local and foreign investments in creating jobs, creating wealth for the nation and bettering the lives of citizens. The WEF in Davos is one of the biggest global gathering for investors, and investment promoters such as ourselves who seek the best for our people,” he said.
The 2024 WEF meeting has been convened under the theme Rebuilding Trust. According to WEF, the theme of the meeting aims to restore collective agency, and reinforce the fundamental principles of transparency, consistency and accountability among leaders.
More than 300 public figures are expected to participate this year, including more than 60 heads of state and government.
Some of the African leaders that have confirmed attendance include Kenyan President William Ruto and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.
An estimated 1,600 business leaders, including 800-plus of the world’s top CEOs and chairs from the World Economic Forum’s Members and Partners, will participate. There will also be more than 150 Global Innovators, Tech Pioneers and Unicorns who are transforming industries.
