Egypt’s defense minister in Washington for talks with U.S. Secretary of Defense

Egypt’s defense minister Mohamed Zaki has begun an official visit to the U.S. at the invitation of Secretary of Defense Mark Esper.
The two are expected to hold talks on various issues of common interest, aimed at enhancing military cooperation and bilateral relations between their countries.
Egypt and the U.S. enjoy strong military cooperation, and have often held joint drills that included land, air and navy troops.
Zaki’s visi to Washington comes following a reverse trip by U.S. officials to Egypt, led by Major General Joseph Votel, commander of the US Central Command.
The Egyptian defense minister has been accompanied to Washington by a high-level delegation from Cairo.
