All is set for Uganda National Airlines to begin operation after it was issued with an air operational license by the Civil Aviation Authority.
The national carrier obtained the license on Friday, giving it the green light to finally commence commercial flights.
The airline had missed its scheduled launch of commercial flights earlier this month because it had not secured the permit from the Civil Aviation Authority.
Minister of Works and Transport Monica Azuba Ntege announced earlier this week that the national carrier would begin flights in August, and was now targeting regional routes including Nairobi, Dar es Salaam and Mogadishu.
More destinations are expected to be launched later in the year.
The Uganda National Airlines has been doing flight tests to these regions in anticipation of the launch.
The carrier received two bombardier CRJ900 jets in April as part of the country’s plan to revive its aviation sector.
The airline will now battle for clientele with regional companies including Kenya Airways, RwadAir and Ethiopian Airlines.
