The 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations champions Algeria climbed up 28 spots to 40th place in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking released on Thursday.
Algeria is also the biggest mover by points in the ranking adding 117 points (total 1463 points) following their 1-0 win against Senegal in the Cup of Nations final in Egypt.
AFCON 2019 runner-up Senegal (1550 points), meanwhile, remains Africa’s top-ranked nation climbing up two spots to 20th, its best-ever ranking position.
Tunisia (1496 points), who lost the 3rd/4th place playoff against Nigeria, slid down four spots to 29th but remains Africa’s second best-ranked nation.
Nigeria moved up 12 spots to 33rd after gaining 48 points (total 1481 points). Surprise package Madagascar broke into the top 100 also moving up 12 spots to 96th following their impressive run to the AFCON 2019 quarterfinals.
Fellow AFCON 2019 quarter-finalists Benin, who knocked out Morocco on penalties, are up from 88th to 82nd in the Ranking.
Burundi tumbled down 14 spots to 148th after they finished bottom of Group C and exited the Cup of Nations without even scoring a goal.
In all, there are 21 African countries in the top 100 of the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking.
2018 World Cup semifinalists Belgium remains top of the Ranking followed by 2019 Copa America champions Brazil and World Cup winners, France. England, Uruguay and European champions Portugal round off the top six teams.
