Algeria has beaten Nigeria 2-1 in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations second semi-final game to set up a clash with Senegal in the final.
The Desert Foxes relied on a Riyad Mahrez stoppage time freekick to secure their place in Friday’s final, settling the tensed clash at the Cairo International Stadium.
The Algerians had opened the scoring in the first half after Super Eagles’ defender Willian Troost-Ekong nodded the ball into the back of his own net.
The Nigerians found their way back into the game in the 72nd minute through an Odion Ighalo penalty, but could not force their way past the North Africans any more.
Friday’s final between Algeria and Senegal will be a repeat of their Group Stage game, in which the Desert Foxes emerged 1-0 winners.
The Teranga Lions booked their place in the final after beating Tunisia 2-1, although they had to rely on an extra-time own goal from Dylan Bronn.
The third-place match between Nigeria and Tunisia will be played on Wednesday, 17 July.
