Sierra Leone President begins official visit to Uganda

Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio arrived in Uganda on Monday for an official thee-day state visit.

The 55-year-old was received in Kampala by President Yoweri Museveni as he began his first visit to the East African country since becoming president in May 2018.

According to the Ugandan presidency, the visit is “expected to further strengthen the warm and cordial relations existing between the two countries. These relations are anchored in the spirit of good will, mutual respect, shared prosperity, and Pan Africanism.”

President Bio and his host President Museveni will hold bilateral talks to explore avenues of further strengthening cooperation between their two nations.

The talks are expected to focus on political, economic and socio-cultural areas of cooperation, with a view of “further deepening regional integration and the promotion on structural transformation and industrialization of the two countries.”

President Bio will stay in Uganda until 3 July.
