President Xi returns to China after attending G20 Summit in Osaka

Chinese Prsident Xi Jinping returned to Beijing on Saturday after attending the 14th Group of 20(G20) Summit in Osaka, Japan.

President Xi used his opportunity to speak at the summit to route for high-quality infrastructure construction which he said would enhance inclusive development. He reiterated that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is open for all parties to achieve shared development.

He also said that the BRI, with its focus on development, will make important contributions to the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the sustainable development of developing countries.

While in Osaka, President Xi met with other Heads of State in attendance, including U.S. President Donald Trump.

In the meeting that lasted some 80 minutes, the two leaders agreed here to restart economic and trade consultations between their countries on the basis of equality and mutual respect.

The U.S. side pledged not to add new tariffs on Chinese exports.

The two countries’ economic and trade negotiating teams will discuss specific issues.

During his stay in Osaka, President Xi also met with other world leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, South Korean President Moon Jae-in, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, French President Emmanuel Macron, Indonesian President Joko Widodo and U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

President Xi was accompanied a high-level team from China, including; Ding Xuexiang, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, and director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee; Liu He, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice premier; Yang Jiechi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee; State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi; and He Lifeng, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and head of the National Development and Reform Commission.
