Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame on Wednesday attended Madagascar’s 59th independence anniversary celebrations in the capital Antananarivo.
The Rwandan leader joined President Andry Rajoelina and thousands of Malagasy people at the Mahamasina Municipal Stadium where the main celebrations were held.
President Kagame is in the southeast African island for an official visit, in which he is also scheduled to hold talks with his host President Rajoelina.
Kagame has been accompanied on the trip by Rwanda’s First Lady Jeannette Kagame. Both are expected to attend a State Banquet that will be hosted in their honour at Iavoloha Presidential Palace.
Rwanda and Madagascar enjoy close diplomatic ties.
In February, the Rwanda Development Board signed a memorandum of understanding with the Economic Development Board of Madagascar to increase the flow of investments between the two countries.
The MoU also sought to bolster ties between the two institutions in a bid to enhance capacity.
