Ethiopian president makes first official visit to Kenya
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta is hosting Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde’s one-day official visit in Kenya.
A statement from the embassy explained that the main purpose of President Zewde’s visit is to engage on ways of further strengthening bilateral ties and cooperating on regional issues of common interest with President Kenyatta.
This will be Ms. Zewde’s first visit to Kenya since becoming president and is also said to be a deliberate move to amend ties between the two countries.
The visit comes weeks after Ethiopian Ambassador to Kenya, Meles Tikea pledged to work on enhancing relations between the two countries after denying claims of Ethiopia turning its back on Kenya.
He said Ethiopia is not seeking to compete with Kenya on any front and will remain a strategic partner.
The Ethio-Kenya Special Status Agreement has enabled the East African countries to deepen strong ties they have had for decades.
