Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to his country from the UK where he spent 10 days in a private visit.

The 76-year-old’s trip had sparked rumors that he had gone to seek treatment for an undisclosed illness, but presidential spokesman Femi Adenisa brushed the rumors aside.

“Some reckless online media, irresponsible political opposition, and other bilious groups and individuals, had gone on overdrive since the president left the country on April 25, insinuating that he was going for hospitalization, and would not return after 10 days as stated,” Adenisa said in a statement.

“Now that the President has returned, can these apostles of evil imaginings swallow their words?” he added.

President Buhari spent more than three months in the UK in 2017, seeking treatment for an unnamed sickness.

Before his re-election in February this year, some opposition leaders accused him of not being in sound health to lead for another term.

Shortly after President Buhari’s arrival in Nigeria on Monday, the Nigerian presidency released pictures showing him looking lively and of good health.
