Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia progressed to the semifinals of the CAF Confederations Cup following a 2-1 second leg win over Al-Hilal of Sudan at the Egyptian Army Stadium in Suez, Egypt.
Etoile du Sahel won the tie 5-2 on aggregate after a 3-1 win at the Stade Olympique de Sousse in Sousse, Tunisia, on April 7.
Waleed Hamid opened the scoring for Al Hilal but goals from Karim Aribi and Wajdi Kechrida earned Etoile the win. Etoile’s Karim Aouadhi was sent off just before halftime for two bookable offences.
The second leg of the Confederation Cup quarterfinal tie between Al Hilal and Etoile du Sahel was postponed indefinitely by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) due to the security situation in Sudan.
The tie was scheduled to take place on April 14 at the Al Hilal Stadium in Omdurman.
Sudan was plunged into a security crisis following the removal of Omar al-Bashir from power by the military after months of civilian protests demanding his resignation.
The protests have continued as the Sudanese people demand that the ruling military transitional council hands over power to a civilian-led authority.
Etoile du Sahel will face Zamalek of Egypt over two legs for a place in the final.
