Human Rights Watch says the International Criminal Court states parties should increase pressure on Sudan’s military transition council to surrender Omar al-Bashir and other war crimes suspects to the ICC.
The group is concerned that Sudanese authorities have not clarified their plans to hold accountable key figures who are accused of overseeing crimes in Darfur, Southern Kordofan and other areas. The HRW says the council should uphold its commitments to human rights and justice for past crimes by transferring the suspects to the Hague court.
The military transitional council has said it will not hand over Omar al-Bashir to the International Criminal Court despite the two arrest warrants the ICC has issued against Bashir.
Omar al-Bashir was ousted from power by the military following months of civilian protests against his 30-year rule.
Bashir has since been transferred from the presidential palace to Kobar Maximum Security Prison in Khartoum.
