The 27-year-old will captain Harambee Stars in the continental competition that will be held in Egypt in June-July.
Kenya will be participating in the tournament for the first time in 15 years, having last done so in 2004.
“We don’t have targets, we just have to work hard game by game and make sure we can collect points,” BBC Sport quotes Wanyama.
“There’s no one to underestimate because when you make it to AFCON, you have to be a good team so we are in a tough group. Hopefully we can try and work hard and go through.”
Kenya is pooled alongside neigbours Tanzania, Senegal and Algeria in Group C.
The East Africans will have to work hard to progress from the group, as Algeria and Senegal are more fancied to qualify for the latter stages of the competition.
Kenya’s first game will be on 23 June against Algeria in Cairo.
Wanyama said Harambee Stars will give their best in the competition as they look to make AFCON 2019 a memorable one.
“It’s a great achievement for me to be able to lead my team into the Nations Cup this year and we just want to go there and enjoy ourselves and try and give the best performance we can give.”
