DR Congo hopes to snap up Wan-Bissaka
The 21-year-old has been impressive since rising to The Eagles’ first team, making 27 Premier League appearances and assisting two goals.
DR Congo manager Florent Ibenge has already attempted to speak with Wan-Bissaka about his country allegiance, but he says the youngster has to want to play for his side.
“It depends on him,” Ibenge told The Independent.
“I sent my scout to watch him four months ago and he sent me a report. He played very well. I won’t pick him for the squad, I want to speak with him first.
“I called him one month ago but he didn’t answer. He has to want to accept the invitation and want to play for Congo, like [Yannick] Bolasie.”
Wan-Bissaka has already represented England at youth level, but could still play for the DR Congo since he is yet to feature for the senior side.
The defender has however in the past expressed desire to make it into the England team.
“But, obviously, that [the U-21s] was the target, so now I have reached that goal, the next is to be in the seniors. Hopefully, that comes. That is the next target,” he is quoted to have said by the Evening Standard.
