Arsenal’s Mesut Özil makes Kenyan herds boy’s dream come true

Read 2 minutes

Arsenal’s German star Mesut Özil earlier this week turned a young Kenyan herds boy’s dream into reality.

The boy was pictured in December wearing a marker pen-printed shirt bearing Özil’s name while herding cattle in the capital Nairobi. The picture was taken by a sports journalist, Eric Njiru, who then uploaded it onto Twitter with hopes that it would grab the Arsenal star’s attention.

“I saw this kid today grazing in the streets of Nairobi – a city without really grass for cows. He told me he loves Mesut Özil so much (You can see his shirt). Maybe one day this can reach Ozil and get a real Arsenal shirt,” Njiru tweeted.

The post went viral on the social platform, finally reaching Özil, who then decided to do something for the boy, only identified as Lawrence.

The 30-year-old sent original Arsenal shirts and boots to the boy, attracting massive applause on social media.

“The picture of a Kenyan boy with a self-made shirt on Twitter touched me so much. And look at Lawrence now – it’s so heartwarming to see him and his brothers happy,” Özil tweeted.

Following his deed, Kenyans on Twitter flooded the social site with praise for the German star. Check these out;
