Egypt’s Sisi stresses efforts to obtain clean energy
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi expressed full support for regional integration and efforts to upgrade the infrastructure in Africa, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement late on Sunday.
He made the remarks during a discussion with the chairman of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) Liu Zhenya, pledging the African efforts to obtain clean energy from renewable resources.
“Egypt expressed full support for regional integration and efforts to upgrade the infrastructure in Africa via investing in cross-border projects,” the statement said.
The meeting tackled a possible role Egypt could play to implement an inter-African power connection, Radi added.
“Egypt could very well serve as Africa’s gate for Europe and Asia, given its distinguished geographic location,” he added.
During the meeting that came in light of Egypt’s presidency of the African Union, Sisi welcomed the current cooperation between Egypt and GEIDCO in the field of conducting technological studies and facilitating the planning of energy infrastructure projects.
The president praised the important role played by GEIDCO to establish a global power interconnection project to meet the global demand for electricity, Radi added.
From his part, Liu, praised the mega projects being implemented in Egypt in the field of power transmission and distribution.
The GEIDCO chairman said his company eyes more cooperation with the Egyptian government in the coming period.
