
World leaders congratulate Buhari
Leaders from across the world are coming out to congratulate Muhammadu Buhari for his re-election as the Nigerian president.
Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta has congratulated Muhammadu Buhari after he was re-elected leader of Nigeria.
In a statement Mr Kenyatta said he was looking forward to continuing to work closely with Mr Buhari to consolidate “mutually beneficial areas of cooperation for the greater good of both Kenya and Nigeria”.
He also posted a tweet to congratulate Mr Buhari, saying his victory was a “clear demonstration of the trust and confidence” Nigerians have in him.
A statement from the South African presidency says that President Cyril Ramaphosa paid “particular focus on the strengthening of economic cooperation” when congratulating Mr Buhari.
Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo also extended a “warm congratulations” to Mr Buhari in a tweet:
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa also wished Buhari well in his efforts to steer the country towards further progress and development.
This is Buhari’s second four-year term in office. Buhari, 76, of the ruling All Progressives Congress party, secured 55.6 percent of the vote, beating his main challenger former vice president Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who received 41.2 percent
