Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it is ready to hold the presidential elections scheduled to take place on Saturday, 16 February.
In an exclusive interview with CGTN, the Deputy Director of Publicity, Aliyu Bello, said the authority had put in place all the necessary structures to ensure the a smooth vote.
“I’m convinced that every template that is required to be in place is now in place.
Unfortunately, yes, some would have one or two take-aways, so perhaps for some of those people preparations can be 9 out of 10, but for me in INEC, I can tell you its 10 over 10,” Bello said.
More than 84 million Nigerians are registered to participate in Saturday’s election.
The voters will pick a favourite candidate from a list of 73 candidate who hope to emerge victorious in the vote.
Of the 73 however, pollsters project that the main candidates are current President Muhammadu Buhari and a former vice president Atiku Abubakar.
Bello urged Nigerians to turn up at their polling stations on Saturday to exercise their civic duty peacefully. He also expressed confidence that INEC will deliver free, fair and credible elections.
