“Several dead people were removed from a wrecked building at the blast scene. So far death toll is 11 civilians and 10 others injured,” Mohamed Hussein, a police officer, told Reuters.

Police said earlier that two people had been killed but that the death toll would likely rise.

Witnesses said the police sealed off the scene immediate after the explosion.

Islamic militant group al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the latest attack.

The bombing on Monday came amid major operations staged by Somali national forces against the al-Qaida-affiliated group in central and southern Somalia.
