The level of economic and trade cooperation between Kenya and China has reached an unprecedented height with foreign aid training programs becoming an important platform for communication between both nations.
Up to now, the Chinese government has funded more than 1,000 Kenyan students to China. There are more than 2,400 Kenyan students who are staying in China for study. 100 of them are in China thanks to a Chinese Government scholarship.

According to Dennis Mutahi, the Director of Human Resource Development in the Ministry of Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs, more Chinese companies are coming to Kenya and the government of Kenya realizes the importance of talent training and technology transfer.
”Our feedback from an evaluation undertaken two years ago reveals that the skills, knowledge and experiences that beneficiaries gain from training in China lead to improved performance and thereby contribute to the growth of the Kenyan economy,” Mutahi said.
During the training, the participants learned intelligence-led policing, crime scene investigations, stakeholder involvement in railway security, deployment of technology in securing train stations, engines and the entire railway line, as well as other law enforcement concepts
‘’The training provided a benchmarking opportunity during the visits to the train stations whereby the officer witnessed the one ticket, one identification concept, police screening passengers before boarding the train and equipment practically used by the officers at the railway station. Upon return to Kenya the participants have implemented and passed the skills to the remaining police officers’’, stated Chief Inspector in charge of Nairobi SGR terminus Robert Mugo.
Next year, China will provide Kenya with 14 bilateral training programs and hundreds of multilateral training programs. Besides scholarships under China Aid, Kenya also benefits from the MOFCOM Scholarship established by the Ministry of Commerce of People’s Republic of China to encourage students from any nationality to study in China.
This year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Kenya.
