Wilfried Zaha ruled out of Cote d’Ivoire’s AFCON qualifier against Guinea
Cote d’Ivoire’s Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha has been ruled out of the country’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier game against Guinea after failing to recover in time from an injury.
The 26-year-old star sustained a thigh injury in a Premier League match against Chelsea on 4 November, but was expected to be back in time for the crucial trip to Conakry.
“It’s a thigh injury and we’re trying to make sure he’s fit for the trip to Manchester United (on 24 November),” BBC quoted Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson.
The Elephants are currently ranked second in Group H with seven points, three behind their Sunday opponents.
A win for Cote d’Ivoire would boost their chances of making it to the 2019 AFCON finals set to be held in Cameroon.
The other teams in the group, the Central African Republic and Rwanda have four points and a point respectively.
