Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Batswana counterpart Mokgweetsi Masisi have agreed to bolster bilateral ties between their two countries.
The two leaders held talks in Beijing on Friday, where African leaders continue to arrive ahead of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) scheduled for Sept. 3 and 4.
“We appreciate that the Botswana government is committed to China-Botswana friendship and deepening cooperation with China in all areas,” President Xi said, suggesting the two sides aim high and look far, increase mutual trust and deepen cooperation to raise bilateral ties to a new high.
The Chinese president also stressed the need for China and Botswana to intensify high-level exchanges, deepen governmental, legislative and sub-national exchanges and always understand and support each other on issues involving their development paths, core interests and major concerns.
Xi added that his country was ready to align development strategies with Botswana, and welcomed the African country to play an active role in the Belt and Road initiative.
The FOCAC Summit will be held under the theme; “China and Africa: Toward an Even Stronger Community with a Shared Future through Win-Win Co-operation.”
