Nigerian singer Davido joins National Youth Service Corp

The Multi-award winning singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido
shook his social media followers when he seemingly announced that he has enrolled in the Nigerian National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). He did this through his social media profiles on twitter and instagram.

The  mandatory service is a requirement by the Nigerian government for university graduates below the age of 30.This is also a requirement for one to have gainful employment by all government employers and few from the private sector.

According to the NYSC website, the purpose of the scheme is primarily to inculcate in Nigerian youth the spirit of selfless service to the community, and to emphasize the spirit of oneness and brotherhood of all Nigerians, irrespective of cultural or social background.

Davido is required to serve in a station different from his origin state for a period of one year with a month for vacation after which, he will go through the passing out ceremony and get a certificate of completion. There will be a heavy focus on community service and development during his service year where he is also entitled to a monthly stipend of N19,800.

Reactions to his enrollment have been varied but have mostly been positive. Tonto Dikeh a famous Nigerian actress commented on his photo and stated that Davido is making plans to rule in the future stating, “He is so smart it’s scary.” Popular social media commentator, Reno Omokri, also joined in praising OBO for registering for the program which many Nigerian youths are mandated to observe following their graduation from university.
