Tennis star Roger Federer is in Zambia checking on his foundation, which operates in rural parts of the country.
The Swiss tennis legend arrived in Lusaka on Sunday and met President Edgar Lungu, giving him a signed tennis racket.
“I am happy to be here. I have a heart for Africa with my mum being South African,” Federer said.
The Roger Federer Foundation (RFF), which aims to provide equitable access to quality basic education to children, began its work in Zambia in partnership with People’s Action Forum (PAF) in August 2011.
In 2011, the Roger Federer Foundation in partnership with PAF launched a community school initiative in rural areas of the southern African country.
Speaking with President Lungu, Federer said he hoped he would be able to use sport to improve early childhood education in the country.
The tennis legend who boasts a staggering 20 Grand Slam titles is scheduled to tour a number of schools across Zambia this week.
