Egypt’s coach warns team against being too dependent on Salah
Egypt’s football coach Hector Cuper has warned the World Cup bound Pharaohs against depending too much on star player Mohamed Salah.
The sensational Liverpool forward is recovering from a shoulder ligament injury sustained in last month’s Champions league final loss to Real Madrid. He is however part of the squad that will travel to Russia to represent Egypt at the FIFA World Cup tournament.
“We hope we won’t be affected, we try to be the same team, we can’t be dependent on one player,” Sky Sports quotes Cuper to say.
“He’s important but if he’s not fit in time we will be ready with another player.
“This is football, these things can happen to any player. We could need to substitute him, but we hope that won’t be the case.”
Egypt is among five African teams that will feature in the World Cup. They are joined by Senegal, Tunisia, Nigeria and Morocco.
The Pharaohs are pooled alongside host Russia, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay in Group A. They play their first game against the South Americans on 15 June.
The North Africans will be hoping Salah can carry to the World Cup the form that saw him score 44 goals for Liverpool in all competitions in the 2017/18 season.
