Chinese Ambassador Sun Baohong begins Kenya duty
The new Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Sun Baohong hand over her credentials to President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday, having been deployed to Nairobi last month.
Ms Sun is the first Chinese female ambassador to the East African country, taking over from Liu Xianfa.
While delivering her credentials at State House in Nairobi, the new diplomat pledged to use her new position to enhance Sino-Kenyan relations to further promote the existing strategic partnership and deepen ties between Nairobi and Beijing.
Ms Sun, the 15th Chinese Ambassador to Kenya is also her country’s permanent representative to two global institutions-United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-Habitat).
Before being deployed to Nairobi, Ms Sun served in Ghana for four years, during which she oversaw unprecedented Chinese interest and investments in the socio-economic well-being of the West African country.
She boasts of a vast work experience within Africa, having worked on the continent for 26 years already.
