At least 20 people were burned to death in a road accident in Nigeria’s southwestern state of Ondo, officials said on Wednesday.

The victims, among whom were passengers of a 14-seater public service vehicle, were burned beyond recognition in the Tuesday accident, local Guardian newspaper reported.

The vehicle collided with another on-coming one head-on, before catching fire immediately.
The drivers of the vehicles survived, but with life-threatening injuries.

Police spokesman Femi Joseph said one of the vehicles’ driver was overtaking another vehicle along the road when it collided with the other coming from the opposite direction.

Another source said some other road users were also among the dead victims.
