Kenya’s Rugby Sevens team on Sunday reached the final game of the World Rugby Sevens Series in Canada, but lost to Fiji to take 19 points home in what turned out to be the team’s best outing so far this season.

The Shujaa booked their spot in the quarter finals after finishing as runners up in the group stage, from which Fiji progressed as winners.

The Kenyans took their chance against England in the quarter final game, winning by 12-0 to book their place in the semi-finals.

The team went on to beat the U.S. by 24-19, earning them their first final slot of the season.

The Shujaa once again battled Fiji, but lost by 12-31.

Kenyans back home however took their team’s performance with immense pride, showering them with praise for their feat.

The Canada result saw Kenya remain in eighth place, but just six points adrift England who are seventh with 70 points.

South Africa still leads the standings, but will be feeling the heat after Fiji closed the gap to just eight points.

Many Kenyans flooded Twitter with congratulatory messages for the Shujaa after their outing, and will be hoping they can emulate the result in the next series to be staged in Hong Kong in April.
