Nigeria’s 2010 Independence Day bombers get life imprisonment

A Nigerian Court on Wednesday sentenced to life imprisonment two men found guilty of masterminding the October 1, 2010 Independence Day bombing in Abuja.
Charles Okah and Obi Nwabueze were found guilty by the Federal High Court after an eight year trial.
At least 12 people died in the attack at the Eagles Square where they had gathered for the celebrations.
According to Africa Review, Okah’s elder brother, Henry who was a former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta- a militant group had been prosecuted and convicted in South Africa for the bomb attack.
Okah and Nwabueze as well as Edmund Ebiware and Tiemkemfa Francis-Osvwo were first arraigned before the court on December 7, 2010.
Osvwo died later in detention while Ebiware, who had his trial conducted separately, was convicted in 2013, serving a life sentence.
