A Kenyan court on Thursday nullified the deportation of Miguna Miguna, a lawyer who “swore in” opposition leader Raila Odinga as the “people’s president” in a challenge to the government of President Uhuru Kenyatta, local television station Citizen reported.

Miguna Miguna who holds dual Kenyan and Canadian citizenship is currently in Canada after being deported to Toronto by the Kenyan government earlier this month following several days of being held in police custody.

In his hard-hitting judgement that sent a warning to State officials disobeying court orders, Justice Luka Kimaru ruled the decision to declare Miguna a non-Kenyan citizen and his subsequent deportation was null and void and ordered the government to restore Miguna’s status as a Kenyan.

Miguna says he is anxious to return to Kenya.

Reacting to the judgement, Miguna said: “I must get guarantees that my tormentors will abide by the numerous court orders and guarantee also that they will abide by the outcome of the appeal they are set to launch at Court of Appeal after it was ruled that my deportation was illegal.”
