The Kenyan government has issued a travel advisory to its citizens travelling or living in some parts of South Sudan namely, states Bieh, Latjoor, Akobo, Jonglei, Northern Liech and parts of Maiwut, Eastern Nile, Boma and Yei River, local online website, the Daily Nation reports.

In a rare statement released Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade specified that the advisory applies to Kenyans living in parts of the Greater Upper Nile region.

According to the statement, the areas mentioned are where armed conflicts and inter-ethnic violence have occurred within the last six months.

The country’s oil rich region has for a while been a battle field between government forces and rebels allied to the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-in Opposition (SPLA-IO)

The advisory comes after 2 Kenyan pilots held in South Sudan were released after the rebels were paid $108,460 as compensation for loss of life and property when the plane crashed.

The ministry also urged Kenyans living in South Sudan to register with the embassy in the capital Juba immediately.
