Nigeria’s army says that Boko Haram’s factional leader Abubakar Shekau now disguises himself as a woman in an effort to escape from the theatre of operation, local online website, Premium Times reports.

A statement by the Army Spokesman, Sani Usman said that Mr. Shekau could no longer bear the heat and has abandoned his followers.

“He is running for his dear life. He is desperately trying to escape the theatre, disguised as a woman and dressed in Hijab.

“We reliably gathered that to avoid detection, Abubakar Shekau alternates between blue and black coloured hijabs. He was last seen in a black hijab.

The army further warned the militant group that they are following a coward who is disguising as a woman in a hijab.

Usman called on all Boko Haram members in hiding to come out and surrender their weapons and be treated humanely.

The army spokesman, therefore, appealed to members of the public, especially the residents of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe to be more vigilant and security conscious as they foster efforts to track and apprehend the fugitive leader.
