Zimbabwe’s Grace Mugabe’s PhD thesis made public
The University of Zimbabwe has made public former first lady Grace Mugabe’s PhD thesis. Her thesis is now the subject of a fraud investigation.
The thesis (https://ir.uz.ac.zw/handle/10646/3463) was published on the university’s website after an anti-corruption watchdog said it was investigating whether Grace was wrongly awarded the doctorate three years ago.
Grace Mugabe, who is wife to the former president Robert Mugabe, was awarded the PhD by the university in 2014 after a few months of study.
Her thesis, ‘’The Changing Social Structure and Functions of the Family: The case if Children’s homes in Zimbabwe” was never published until this week.
“We saw the thesis on the website (late Wednesday)… the question is why it took four years to publish,” said Ashley Munetsi, secretary-general of the Zimbabwe National Students’ Union “This is an obvious cover-up and we are not going to rest until the matter is settled. We are calling on the vice-chancellor to account for the degree,” AFP quotes her to say.
The 226-page thesis was a dedication to her husband for his commitment and dedication to the well-being of the people of Zimbabwe.
Mrs. Mugabe was praised as “learned mother of the nation” and defended herself at a ZANU-PF rally in September that she had earned her PhD when her critics thought otherwise.
The country’s newly elected president Emmerson Mnangagwa promised to fight corruption and solve the economic situation in the country when he took over from Mugabe.
