Gabon says appreciates China’s support, willing to enhance ties
Gabon’s Foreign Minister Noel Nelson Messone has expressed his country’s appreciation for China’s long-term and sincere support in development.
Messone made the remarks in the capital Luanda in a meeting with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is on a four-day visit to Africa.
Wang began his tour in Rwanda, where he met with President Paul Kagame, before traveling to Angola where he also met with President Joao Lourenco.
His last visit will be to Sao Tome and Principe.
Messone said Gabon and China had agreed to enhance their cooperation to a comprehensive partnership during President Ali Bongo Ondimba’s visit to China in 2016, ushering bilateral relations into a historic new stage.
The Gabonese diplomat also reiterated his country’s adherence to the one-China policy, and Gabon’s support for China’s legitimate rights and interests on issues such as the South China Sea.
He also added that his country was willing to continue mutually beneficial cooperation with China on trade, infrastructure, agriculture, education, health and defense.
Wang on his part called on both sides to take concrete measures to implement their comprehensive cooperative partnership.
He said his country supported Gabon’s efforts to realize economic diversification, adding China will continue to provide necessary support for Gabon in infrastructure development.
