U.S. firm mulls setting up renewable energy plant in Zambia

A U.S. company has expressed a desire to set up a plant in Zambia to manufacture renewable energy products.

RD Global, which is working with a Japanese firm Mera Group Corporation, is said to prefer Zambia as a destination of investment in the energy sector because of its geographical location in the southern African region, according to Rune Gunnar Dige, the company’s global managing director.

Zambia currently has an energy deficit.

Xinhua reports Dige to have said the company wanted to use Zambia as a base to supply energy renewable products to other markets in the region.

During a courtesy call on Zambia’s ambassador to the U.S Ngosa Simbyakula, he said a company team was expected to arrive in Zambia this month to meet relevant stakeholders to begin working towards a full-scale entry into the Southern African country’s market.

“With time, the intention is to develop an economic base in Zambia which will include an assembly factory, supporting neighboring markets with Solar LED charging solutions,” Dige said.
