South Africa’s vice president Cyril Ramaphosa has urged his countrymen to work harder in 2018 to build a better economy that serves everyone.

“As we reflect on the achievements and challenges of last year, we must reaffirm our determination to build an economy that serves all our people,” Ramaphosa said in a Christmas message to South Africans.

“We need to work together as social partners to focus on our economy by removing all the obstacles to investment and move South Africa to a higher level of growth,” he pointed out.

The newly elected president of the ruling ANC party said that despite the country’s progress over 2017, unemployment remained an issue in the country.

He urged South Africans to remain focused on building a better society by implementing the National Development Plan with energy as well as with great urgency.

According to Ramaphosa, under the NDP plan which is a blueprint for inclusive growth, social cohesion and prosperity for all South Africans by 2030, the country will continue to develop skills that can help the country realize its developmental goals and address labor market issues.

Following his win of the ANC presidency, Ramaphosa will contest the presidency in 2019 under the ruling party’s flag.
