A Zimbabwean mother who reportedly sold her only child to an unnamed man for sex appeared before a magistrate on Thursday to answer to rape charges, the New Zimbabwe reports.
According to the state, the mother who cannot be named to protect the child’s identity, committed the offence during the past week.
The court was told that the woman, on the first incident, invited a man she hired to rape her 14 year daughter to her place of residence.
The man then chose to use a different base and took the juvenile into Harare’s Central Business District with his vehicle.
It is alleged that the man took the teenager to some place where he raped her several times.
According to the report, he took the girl back home but raped her again while in his car near the flats she resided at.
He gave the girl’s mother some money after the abuse.
Almost similar incident happened the second time but this time he took the girl to some lodges. The girl’s mother was again paid.
Neighbours noticed what was happening and they helped the girl report the abuses and the mother was arrested.
She was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to December 28.
