Tanzania’s president to launch nationalism campaign

President John Magufuli is set to launch a nationalism campaign aimed at promoting patriotism among Tanzanians.
The ministry of Information, Culture, sports and Arts, Dr Harrison Mwakyembe said that the campaign was need since in recent days unity and solidarity had been diminishing among the people.
Mwakyembe added that the ‘Nchi Yangu Kwanza’ (My Country First) campaign, which is part of the Independence commemorations, will help revive the spirit of nationalism as espoused by the founding leader Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, the East African reports.
“It’s a shame to see some people showering praise on leaders who have been ejected out of the leadership system due to malpractices, especially fraud,” he said.
He further said that in order for the country’s economy to grow, people have to embrace nationalism.
“Development calls for unity and solidarity, in absence of these, nothing good can be achieved,” he said.
Since coming into power in 2015, Magufuli promised to deal with corruption and build the country’s economy.
